Gardening Club Dec 2010

Many apologies for missing a deadline in October, especially as we had had an excellent talk by Simon White of Peter Beale Roses. He gave us good advice on growing and pruning roses, the types to grow with advice on their care. He also brought roses which we were able to buy at a very reasonable rate! Their nursery at Attleborough is open throughout the year and well worth a visit.

A merry band of 6 volunteers planted daffodil bulbs in the Jubilee Garden which we hope will give a good display in Spring.

In October, Dudley Gunn, a Wildlife Ranger from Thetford Forest Park brought along some magnificent sets of antlers from the 4 types of deer that roam the forest and gave a superb illustrated talk about the forest and it’s deer. The largest is the Red deer, then the Fallow, Roe and Muntjak. There is a large visitor centre, ”High Lodge” in the park, well worth a visit with family and as it has the lowest rainfall in the UK, you are almost guaranteed to have a dry day.

There is no meeting in December, so have a very Happy Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in 2011.
