RBL December 2010

The AGM meeting of the Royal British Legion men’s section took place at the King’s Head on Thursday 4th November at 2000hrs with 7 members present.  The Legion members of the Saturday Club (Motorcycle Club) were also in attendance.  Apologies were given for Mr George Bandy and Mr Bill Truman, (Bill left his hat off at night and caught a cold).

The President, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer gave their reports.  The President said thanks to all who have helped over the year and a big thanks to the Saturday Club for the help in raising awareness of Legion activities and raising monies for the Poppy Appeal over the year.  The Treasurer gave his report and said the branch was still solvent and had 33 members.  This number keeps going down and he expressed the opinion that if all ex-service members in Elmham were to join the Legion we would be nearer 100.

The committee was again voted en block to stay in the same positions for another year.  This stopped Gerald from his usual “I’m quitting as Secretary” comment.

The meeting closed at 2130hrs.

The Last of the Summer Wine group made their way back to the bar with one thought on their minds.  Was it the original Compo, Clegg, etc looking out from the door of the King’s Head on the picture in the EDP or was it Gerald, David and Brian T?  Answers on the back of a fag packet please!

Ed’s note; – There was a lovely picture in the EDP of a coach and horses which had stopped at the King’s Head on it’s way home from a race meeting at Litcham.  Standing at the rear of the picture, behind the carriage was the Publican, Mr Wordingham and a small group of onlookers – did you recognise anyone?  (After all it was 1950).
