North Elmham Public Rights of Way
We have relatively few Public Rights of Way (PRoW) in the parish, 4 Footpaths and 2 Bridleways. These can all be found on the latest version of the Ordnance Survey Explorer or Landranger maps.
The legal use of a public footpath is on foot, and a public bridleway on foot, or on a horse or cycle.
The other PRofW are restricted byways (use on foot, cycle, horse and horse & cart) and lastly a public byway, (Byway Open to All Traffic or BOAT) and which includes all of the above users as well motor vehicles. There are none of these within the parish.
If you are out in the country remember to follow the Countryside Code, so keep to the public right of way, or open access land. Do not trespass onto other land. Leave gates as they are found. Keep dogs under control especially near farm animals. Show consideration for other people.
It’s the responsibility of the landowner to ensure the public’s rights of way are not obstructed. An obstruction can be anything that prevents convenient use of the path.
If you find PRoW that are obstructed then these can be reported to Norfolk County Council on their web-site (https://online.norfolk.gov.uk/prowproblem/) or by telephoning 0344 800 8020 and asking for the Public Rights of Way department.
