U
nfortunately I wasn't able to attend May's meeting due to a bug, so Joan Shannon kindly helped with this month's meeting information.
We thoroughly enjoyed our May meeting with a visit to George Carter's garden at Silverstone Farm in North Elmham. Some of you may already know that George in an eminent Garden Landscape Designer.
The evening was warm and dry enough for a gentle stroll around the garden first with George accompanying us and telling us about the garden.
The garden was divided into several rooms showing off the wonderful planting. Most of the divisions were made using Hornbeam hedges, which had been clipped in a formal way. In addition to the hedging, there was a certain amount of topiary and ornamental obelisks. The two most impressive rooms were the Tennis Lawn with small pavilions at either end and the Green Theatre, which had cut sections in the tall semi-circular Hornbeam hedging around the edge of theatre, showing off elegant stone urns.
After our walk we adjourned to a beautiful converted barn for our official part of the meeting.
This month on 24th July we are looking forward to our outing to The Stamford Shakespeare Company, Rutland Open Air Theatre in the grounds of historic Tolethorpe Hall, Little Casterton, Rutland. We're going to see 'Much Ado About Nothing'.
At the end of the month on 28th July our meeting is an opportunity for a delicious cheese and wine tasting, courtesy of Waitrose.
