WENDLING 1 - 2 NORTH ELMHAM

Jamie GrimsonNorth Elmham travelled to Wendling and progressed to the quarter finals of the Pease cup courtesy of a 2-1 victory. On a poor pitch Elmham started well, however it was Wendling that took an early lead with a powerful header direct from a corner.

Elmham began to play some better football and were soon level thanks to an excellent finish by Richard Mallet who kept a cool head to calmly slot home when played clean through.

Chances were few and far between for both teams until Elmham took the lead ten minutes before the break. Chris Riseborough was the quickest to react to a goalkeeping error to smash the ball home from 3cm into an empty net. Elmham nearly extended their lead after some excellent chasing from Chris Fuller forced the Wendling centre back into an error; unfortunately, he could not capitalise and shot wide.

The second half saw both teams cancel one another out, hardly surprising as it was the third time the two teams have played each other in four weeks. There were numerous half chances for both sides, with Chris Fuller looking very lively, but the game slowly fizzled out. This was a stark contrast to the side’s two previous meetings, which had provided 10 goals and some excellent football.

Elmham will now look to extend their lead at the top of the league this weekend at home to Breckland Wanderers. KO 2pm, Players to meet at 1pm.

NORTH ELMHAM RESERVES 0 - 4 MATISHALL A

Ryan HallidayNorth Elmham Reserves were solidly beaten by 4 goals to nothing at home to an impressive Matishall A side.

The first half started badly for the home side and they were 2-0 down within 25 minutes, with two close range goals from poorly defended set pieces.

Elmham were never really at the races on a wet and miserable day, but they did exert some pressure on Matishall in the period preceding and following the break, and only a last ditch tackle prevented Ryan Halliday from almost certainly pulling a goal back.

But Elmham's fate was sealed 20 minutes from time when a Mattshall forward scored from a tight angle, and an excellent free-kick in the dying stages of the game put the icing on the cake for the visitors who fully deserved their victory against a lack-lustre North Elmham side who really need to raise their game away to Colkirk next weekend, K.O 2pm.
