North Elmham 3 - 2 Wendling
North Elmham welcomed fellow title hopefuls Wendling and came out on top in an excellent match. On a miserable day Elmham got off to the worst possible start, conceding within the first five minutes to a freak goal that went in only after hitting both posts. The early goal appeared to knock the wind out of Elmham's sails and Wendling began to take the upper hand, restricting Elmham to few chances. Then on the half hour mark Wendling doubled their advantage thanks to an excellent move and finish that left the Elmham 'keeper with no chance.
Half time came and after a typically motivating team talk from manager Martin Halliday Elmham came out looking like a different team and were soon level thanks to some excellent wing play from Louis Rutherford which enabled Chris Scase to finish with a powerful header. Elmham then made some tactical changes and began to take control of the match. After 75 mins the
equaliser came thanks to a superb 30 yard strike from Chris Scase. Elmham continued to push on for the victory, which nearly cost them as Wendling attacked on the break, and only a great save by 'keeper Nathan Clarke kept the match level.
Then with only a minute to go Chris Scase popped up at the far post to complete his hat-trick and a memorable comeback. Credit goes to the entire North Elmham team which never gave up and fought to the very end. Credit must also go to Wendling who played some very good football themselves.
Elmham will look to take their momentum forward in their next game, which is at home to Gressenhall Reserves 3pm KO. Players to meet at 2pm.
Nostro Reserves 6 - 2 North Elmham Reserves
North Elmham Reserves travelled to Eaton Park to face Nostro Reserves on a wet and windy day in Norwich. After a bright start with neat attacking football, Elmham took the lead after 8 minutes when Lee Brooks was felled in the area - Brooks took the penalty himself and converted to give Elmham the perfect start. However, the home side began to play their way into the game, and equalised after 22 minutes when a player jinked into the area and fired home. Nostro then took the lead through another striker's powerful header, and fell further behind when a spectacular long range effort flew into the top corner, leaving stand in 'keeper Jack Morrissey with no chance.
However, Elmham continued to battle and got a deserved goal back on the stroke of half-time when Graham Mudd rose to power home a firm header.
Elmham went into the break confident and started the second half in break-neck fashion, creating numerous chances and only the home sides's keeper, and his woodwork, keepng the visitors at bay. Unfortunately, Elmham were caught on the counter-attack and Nostro, somewhat against the balance of play, opened up a two goal lead at 4-2.
Elmham's heads went down after that, and two more goals were conceded in the 65th and 74th minutes, the latter with the aid of two unleashed dogs which caused chaos in the Elmham penalty area. The final score was 6-2, the home side playing well but having a scoreline which flattered them.
