County School Station News
The foresters have been out to cut down some of the most dangerous trees along the avenue to the station. This went relatively well and disturbance to the locals was kept to a minimum. But they are expected back again this year. There were some trees that they could not work on due to nesting birds. A date has not yet been established but I was informed that it should only take a day to complete. The plan is to stay with the original schedule, it working out well for most people.
We now have a group of people that have come up from Dereham for a while. They plan on working around the station on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will be conducting some painting and decorating around the outside of the station.
Weed killing trials between bridge 1706 (Church Lane) and bridge 1707 (The next bridge North) has done well. The contractor is well pleased with the results. We are planning to spray the area from North Elmham to bridge 1706 as soon as people and climate conditions agree.
Just recently we have installed a set of gates in the new fence line so that the farmers crossing just south of County School could be put back in to use. There is still further work to bring it up to a standard so he can use it for livestock.
Moving on South from North Elmham there is another group of volunteers that are hoping to open the line from Dereham to Hoe to passengers by 2012. They have been working on changing out sleepers, clearing drains and cutting back trees. The justice system has been playing a big part in this project by providing much needed man power. You can view this work from over bridges and level crossings. Please do not walk on the track bed.
