25. The Northwest Passage by Sandra Howard
Courageous explorers sought the Northwest Passage for centuries as a trade route through the Arctic Ocean. The first recorded attempt was by John Cabot, who was sent by Henry VII in 1497. Sir John Franklin's 1845 two-ship expedition ended in disaster - no survivors were found. Roald Amundsen finally conquered the Northwest Passage by sea in 1906.
